Heiter Center Board Elects New Officers

Lewisburg, Pa-The Board of Directors of the Donald L. Heiter Community Center has elected new officers for the 2009-2010 years. Molly Pavlechko of Lewisburg was installed as President at the Boards November meeting. Past President Jane Amacher and Kelly Ford-Harris were installed as Vice President and Secretary respectively. Leisha Johnson Harvey joins the Board as a new member and Treasurer of the organization.

Pavlechko joined the Heiter Center Board in 2008. Originally from Morristown, New Jersey, she obtained a BA degree from Hofstra University and an MS degree from Bucknell University where she is employed as a Research Development Specialist. She has two children Ella (14) and Lauren (9).

Both Amacher and Ford-Harris had served previously in their current positions. Amacher joined the Heiter Center Board in 1996 and served as President from 1998 to 2007. She served on the capital campaign steering committee in 1996 to raise the funds needed to purchase the building that houses the Center at 100 N. Fifth Street. Amacher has been instrumental in the growth and development of the center over the years serving in various volunteer capacities and taking on numerous projects. She and her husband Dr. A. Loren Amacher were awarded the Harriman Award from Bucknell University for service to the university community.

A graduate of Penn State University, Ford-Harris is originally from Annapolis, Md. She moved to the area nearly nine years ago and opened the Sylvan Learning Centers in Lewisburg and Bloomsburg. She brings her small business experience and a first handing knowledge of working with children School District.

Treasurer Leisha Johnson-Harvey moved to Lewisburg with her family five years ago from Miami, Fl. She served in the US Air Force stationed in Texas and most recently was Inc. Leisha and her husband Tom have three children – Daniel 21, Adrien 19, and Alison 9.


The Donald L. Heiter Community Center is in the middle of an ambitious $100,000 annual fund campaign that is needed to ease the strain on the operating budget that has been ravaged by the decline in foundation and government funding. In 2009, the Center served nearly 4000 people from a four county area with the largest contingent served being the areas youth. The new board has embarked on an ambitious program to reduce costs and to secure community financial support that is essential to the continuance of the center’s various programs that serve a cross section of the community and age groups.

Other Members of the Board of Directors are Polly Doyle, Pat Flannery, Jeff Ranck, Shawn Felty, Bob Lack and Jim Fritchman.
