After School Program

The Donald L. Heiter Community Center offers an Academic Enrichment After School Program, which provides resources and assistance to children with homework assignments. Following the study hour, participants enjoy supervised play time, in our 5,200 square foot facility, which includes a library, air hockey, foosball and pool tables, and a gymnasium with basketball hoops, jump ropes and hoola hoops. Kids love the unstructured play time, and parents love that homework is done for the night! While we are open to children from all school districts, the program follows the Lewisburg Area School District calendar, and only provides busing from the Lewisburg schools.

CARE strives to increase awareness of and respect for people of all different races, ethnicities, gender, religions and sexual orientations through its workshops, programs, festivals and newsletters. Community Conversation on Bullying

Created and led by Bucknell students, Doug Bogan and Devon Mercer, this program began by identifying student leaders in the Lewisburg Area High School. These students were then provided with training as moderators and recorders by official League of Women Voters representatives. Following this initial training, students will be equipped with the skills to organize, promote and effectively execute community events. The group will begin with an area-wide discussion on the issue of bullying, provide increased awareness on the topic, and identify action steps to educate their peers. This student group will then become the teen-age governing board to address other Lewisburg community issues.
