Spotlight on the Board of Directors

The mission of the Donald L. Heiter Community Center is "to operate a multipurpose community center in the Lewisburg area that serves all age groups, is locally controlled, frugally managed and representative of a wide variety of community interests. " Working largely behind the scenes to help accomplish this mission is the Center’s Board of Directors. These 15 dedicated persons are responsible for all matters of policy and the financial affairs of the Center.

Board meetings are held monthly and, with certain exceptions, are open to the public. Minutes of Board meetings are written and are available to the public.

Annually the Board elects a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer who form the Executive Committee. Other standing committees, each chaired by a member of the Board, include Site and Equipment, Finance, Programs, Public Relations/ Publicity and Nominating.

The Center has been lucky, indeed, to have a Board which is hard-working, very supportive of its mission and always willing to help wherever there is a need. Below are comments from two of our Board members.

Newest member, Polly Doyle, volunteered because of the love and commitment of the staff and because she has witnessed the joy, spirit and stories her two children, ages 10 and 13, have brought home from the after-school program and the summer day camp. She has said that she truly believes the community needs to hear more, see more and completely embrace the Center for its variety of programs and commitment to this community.

"I am passionate about the future of the center as they grow and continue to be one of the best havens for our youth. I have believed in the spirit and generosity and good will of the Center since my children began coming four years ago and to see so much has been accomplished in this short time, but so much more needs to be done. I am happy to join the Board and to hopefully contribute in anyway needed. "

Julie Reedy is the Board’s treasurer. "I am on the Board hoping to make a difference in the children’s lives in the community. The Center so important to the children! They need a safe place to go with mentors they can trust. "

She envisions the Center in years to come helping more and more children each year. She also sees the building and staff growing accordingly.
